Supporting Oracabessa during the Covid-19 Pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a considerable impact on the lives and livelihoods of businesses, social services and the residents of the Oracabessa community. Much of our efforts during 2020 went towards helping our Oracabessa residents and institutions be more informed, resilient, and in a better position to respond to the various challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Showing gratitude to our local health workers:
Thanks to support from Island Grill Restaurants, we treated and provided delicious meals to the nurses and healthcare staff of both the Oracabessa and Port Maria Health Centers.
Distribution of reusable face masks to residents:
With the support of the World Bank, NCB Foundation, and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association, we distributed over 2,500 reusable face masks to citizens of Oracabessa.
Installation of foot-pedal hand wash stations:
We partnered with the Global Environment Fund through our Oracabessa Marine Trust to install foot pedal hand wash stations at the Oracabessa Fishing Beach and the Oracabessa Health Center.
Distribution of care packages:
We partnered with the Global Environment Fund to distribute food and care package to over 100 families, including fishermen, and our Fish sanctuary wardens in Oracabessa.
Supporting Local Schools with online learning:
We partnered with the NCB Foundation to provide laptops, printing paper and commercial printing ink to the Oracabessa Primary and Oracabessa High Schools to support their distance learning program.
Hosting our community health fair:
We partnered with the Ministry of Health to host a community health fair in Oracabessa, where we provided Covid-19 information and health checks to the Oracabessa residents.
